Rural Folklife Day celebrates Florida’s rural past and present with hands-on learning activities and demonstrations. Students can taste jellies, play traditional games, churn butter, sing songs, hear stories, quilt on a frame, taste sugar cane, assist a blacksmith, learn about lye soap, cast a fishing line, witness the making of old-fashioned cane syrup and “cracker cow” whips. This event is a long-standing local tradition. For decades students have enjoyed field trips to the park to experience the folklife of the Suwannee River Valley.
